چکیده

In this review, adsorbents used in wastewater treatment and their technical feasibilities are reviewed. Adsorbents are classified as natural adsorbents, and the adsorbents obtained from industrial and agricultural wastes. They all were compared with each other condensing the metal binding capacities, costs and metal removal performances in waste water treatments. Although commercial activated carbon is widely used in wastewater treatment applications, it has high costs. Instead of activated carbon, we focused on the inexpensive materials like chitosan, zeolite, and clay as natural adsorbents; waste slurry and ash as industrial waste; and, rice husk and coconut shell as agricultural waste. It was shown that these alternative adsorbents had sufficient binding capacity to remove heavy metals from wastewater.

Applications on agricultural and forest waste adsorbents for the removal of lead (II) from contaminated waters

At present, there is growing interest in using low cost, commercially available materials for the adsorption of heavy metals. The major advantages of adsorption technologies are its effectiveness in reducing the concentration of heavy metal ions to very low levels and the use of inexpensive adsorbent materials. In this review, agricultural and forest waste adsorbents were used to remove Pb ions...

Low-cost adsorbents for heavy metals uptake from contaminated water: a review.

In this article, the technical feasibility of various low-cost adsorbents for heavy metal removal from contaminated water has been reviewed. Instead of using commercial activated carbon, researchers have worked on inexpensive materials, such as chitosan, zeolites, and other adsorbents, which have high adsorption capacity and are locally available. The results of their removal performance are co...

Adsorption of Heavy Metal (Cu, Ni and Zn) from Synthetic Waste Water by Tea Waste Adsorbent

Industrial waste constitutes the major source of various kinds of metal pollution in natural water. There are at least 20 metals which cannot be degraded or destroyed. The important toxic metals are Cu, Ni and Zn. There are numerous methods currently employed to remove and recover the metals from our environment and many physicochemical methods have been proposed for their removal from wastewat...

Comparative studies on adsorptive removal of chromium from contaminated water using different adsorbents

Chromium, especially the hexavalent form, is toxic to humans. Industries like chrome plating, textile, electroplating discharge Cr(VI) in their effiuents. Wastes containing chromium are environmentally persistent and toxic, and cannot be degraded or detoxified biologically. Various techniques developed for the removal of heavy metals include chemical precipitation, ion exchange and adsorption. ...
